Airwindows is one guy: me! I am an audio hacker and computer programmer from way back. I seek only to continue my life up here in Vermont, inventing things and putting them onto the internet, sometimes for free and sometimes for pay. My hope is that people richer than me (i.e. most people) don't rob me. My other hope is for another cup of Aeropress. One out of two ain't bad!

PurestDriveDemo is unusual, even startling. What’s the deal with suddenly putting out the simplest imaginable softclip/saturation… not even a safety clipper, ADClip does that… for $50? It’s about the tone—and it’s about the R&D. PurestDrive is a sort of science project, and it’s using some Airwindows techniques at a level I’ve never before attempted, to produce […]

ToVinyl3Demo  is a universal binary AU plugin to center and accentuate bass, such as you’d do for vinyl mastering or to make an electronic music mix more efficient over a large PA system. You can cut side-channel bass and tighten and control the extreme lows in the middle, with great-sounding Airwindows filters. Also, ToVinyl 3 includes […]

NoiseDemo is a universal binary AU plugin for generating naturalistic environment noise, which you can use in sound design for video, or as a texture for music. You have four different tone shaping controls: a lowpass that can chase the envelope of the input sound, two highpass-related controls hooked to the guts of the noise generator […]

Logical3Demo is a universal binary AU plugin and the definitive Airwindows 2-buss compressor! The way Logical transforms the sound is not subtle. It’s designed to glue the track but also provides a distinctive hit-record ‘presence’ to the highs, allowing a sweet spot to be found where everything really pops and communicates. This draws on all the […]

ADClip4Demo is a universal binary Audio Unit plugin, bringing together everything learned in the original ADClip and 3DClip plus new functionality for the best possible final-clipping plugin. It works by tracking what samples have clipped, and pulling back the onset and release samples that would have clipped, to transition between the two states more gracefully. ADClip […]

ToTape4Demo is a tape emulation AU universal binary plugin, and the next-generation Airwindows tape emulation. This one can go on the 2-buss! It operates by isolating all the factors in the sound that don’t sound like tape, refining them, and then taking them out of the source material with a single subtract—the input sound is otherwise […]

Iron Oxide 4

IronOxide4Demo is a tape emulation AU universal binary plugin. It’s old school tape emulation. Unlike ToTape, Iron Oxide 4 doesn’t present a realistic tape model with wide-range sound—instead, it traps in the sound in the lows and highs and lets you make it bark. This is the one for putting on isolated tracks and cranking out, […]

Logical2Demo was an intermediate stage of Logical, transitioning between the original Logical with its convolution-based SSL color and Logical3 with its full set of controls made to work like familiar buss comps. Logical2 had none of that, though it sounded good. It had only two controls, an input and output gain. It was about trying […]

ToTape3Demo was the precursor to ToTape4. It’s the ‘high-resolution’, realistic emulation in contrast to Iron Oxide, which is the ‘for effect’, tape-slam sort of plugin. ToTape doesn’t tend to have striking changes in behavior version by version, because it’s toward an emulation target that is itself very high-resolution. It’s about mimicking the tone of magnetic tape […]

Iron Oxide 3

IronOxide3Demo added tape flutter to Iron Oxide, and tuned the antialiasing. This is much like ToTape: the basic concept of the plugin doesn’t change that much, though 3 added flutter and 4 added an inv/dry/wet mix control. These are the tape effects, not there to be radically reinvented each year. If you like this one best, […]
