kinds of things you can find here

These are general classes of things you can find on the Airwindows website. Some, like ‘Audio Units’, contain nearly everything I’ve ever posted, or like ‘VSTs’ represent a significant change in how I worked: some like ‘Bestsellers’ narrow things down a lot.

Audio Unit

This gives you a list of all the Airwindows Audio Units EVER, whether free or for-pay, including all versions of plugins, most recent first! This is where it all started. Also, all the old ones that I could find have been re-exported as the full versions. Since you can’t buy things through Kagi anymore, if you had old Audio Units and need to download them again, find the exact one you had on the site, and download the ‘demo’ link. It should give you the full version. I can’t always make every plugin a modern VST and signed AU, but in this way I let users of the old Audio Units (64 bit/32 bit/PPC, in DMG files) have access to everything I’ve ever made, for free. When I have the source code (which is often true, but not always) I can also take these older releases and put them out as VSTs and signed M1 Mac builds. There are still many I haven’t got to yet.

VST

These are the plugins that have been released, or re-released, as Mac, Windows and Linux VSTs. The Mac VSTs come in ‘old school’ and ‘new signed M1/intel’ versions, and the Windows VSTs come in retro 32 bit and modern 64 bit versions. This is pretty much what my Patreon brought to the world.

Bestsellers

If you’re not sure what to get, look through this much smaller list: the best selling Airwindows plugins! You can see what’s popular with the most people, this way. This might be a good place to start if you’ve never seen Airwindows plugins before. Note: the many versions of Airwindows Console are very popular too, but have always been more tricky to set up and use. Plugins like tape effects are both popular and a lot more approachable.

Games

I also explore game ideas, using the Airwindows ingenuity to make things that are like the plugins: odd, obscure and awesome! These posts have to do with game stuff (sometimes also including audio content). Generally the source code for these is also available. You won’t have heard of any of these, but if they run for you, you might have some fun playing with these games.

Innovative

This special category features all the plugins where I really came up with something worthwhile and original. Some are popular, some very obscure, but you will find sounds in this list that you can’t get ANYWHERE else, at any price. If you are secret weapon shopping, LOOK HERE first! I’ll point out this is not the same thing as ‘good’: these are the ones where I tried to do something different. For instance, a great emulation of something people like will never be ‘innovative’ unless it’s the first appearance of some kind of technique that is itself not common.
