Chris

Hi! I've got a new plugin you can have! These plugins come in Mac AU, and Mac, Windows and Linux VST. They are state of the art sound, have no DRM, and have totally minimal generic interface so you focus on your sounds.

PhaseNudge

PhaseNudge is a free allpass for phase rotation, such as matching dissimilar mics or adjusting the upfrontness of a track. Higher values rotate the attack farther back behind the body of the sound.

An allpass filter is a part of many reverb algorithms. It’s like a little delay widget set a certain way, that will pass all frequencies you send through it, but pass them at different speeds, blurring the result. You don’t usually get an allpass filter as a standalone plugin, so now you do: have fun with it!

Possible uses are putting it on pads to blur them, softening snare drums, backing vocals, in general anything that should be more blurry and diffuse.

PhaseNudge uses code from Console to deepen its sound, so gain staging is a thing with it: if you’re overdriving it, back off on the gain.

FarSpace2

FarSpace2Demo was the second incarnation of FarSpace/NearSpace. Changes involved simplifying the processing, removing the antialiasing which was there to handle the anti-saturation code that got removed.

During this period FarSpace changed its sound around pretty wildly while not being awesome. I’m going to encourage paying attention to reverbs like Space, PocketVerbs, and even FarSpace3, but this is when FarSpace2 came out, and I do have it (but not apparently the demo) to support those who got it and might need a replacement copy someday.

If you want this, buy Space and ask for it by email, and I’ll send it.

Chorus2

Chorus2 uses technology from Console and a little Haas effect in the positioning of the delay tap to produce silky fat chorusing without flangey overtones. Good for fattening pads without sounding obviously modulated! This is a nice little Airwindows freebie to have in your toolbox.

ADT2

ADT2Demo is a universal binary AU plugin to do Automatic Double Tracking- aka fixed flanging/chorusing, as used by the Beatles. Two independent delay taps for normal or inverted ADT, code from Console2 gives you analog-like richness and tone.

As you probably know, ADT is simply a single delay tap, very quick. What makes my ADT special is several things- one, you have two taps to play with independently. Two, you can add them either in-phase or inverted- which means you can do that David Bowie ‘Young Americans’ vocal tone, originally done with two mics and one of them out of phase, but in a plugin after the fact. And three, the delay time is interpolated- you’re not stuck with discrete samples, and that means you can adjust the timing more finely, dialing in just the right cancellation or reinforcement at a certain frequency. You can’t really have ADT without having that, as the real ADT is analog and doesn’t get quantized to particular samples. Neither does mine!

ADT2 changed over to using the full 32-bit floating point buss for its delays: the original ADT from 2007 was using an internal fixed point buss.

But most importantly, the new version of this plugin uses the technology found in Console2 to produce a huge depth and space to the effect which you won’t get with a straight-up digital delay! And it’s self-contained so you can use it in any sort of mix you like, not just one with Airwindows summing. You can try the demo for a quick listen to how this plugin sounds, and compare it to a regular DAW slapback. The ‘Headroom’ control lets you saturate the effect for more intensity, or clean it up.

ADT2 is $50.
